The efficacy of botulinum toxin type A injection in treatment of myofacial pain dysfunction syndrome A randomized placebo controlled clinical trial

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of the current research was to evaluate the effectiveness of utilizing botulinum toxin (BTX) for treating myofascial pain from the masseter, temporalis, and lateral pterygoid muscles in patients with temporo-mandibular joint problems. Subjects and Methods: There were 29 participants in the study who had been diagnosed with masseter and temporalis myofascial pain. They were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups, either group A (Intervention n=15), which received 100 U of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) injected at MTrP per masseter, temporalis, and lateral pterygoid muscles, or group B (Placebo n=14), which received treatment with At first, visual analogue scales for pain and pressure algometry were used., at 2 weeks, 1 and 3 months of BTX type A injections (study group A) and placebo (control group B).
