Theme of Wild and Wilderness in Toni Morrison’s A Mercy

Abstract

Toni Morrison’s novel A Mercy dealt with various themes which are beautifully intertwined with each other. The home of ‘Wild and Wilderness’ is a very important theme of the novel which has been brought forward by the character of Florens. And not merely the concept but the opposite ideas of wilderness as perceived by blacks and whites has also been juxtaposed by the writer. The present paper thus is an effort to bring out the various interpretations related to this theme of ‘Wild and Wilderness’ in the novel.
