Translation of Oswestry Disability Index into Malayalam and Evaluation of its Reliability and Validity: A translation, adaptation, and cross-cultural validation study
Saumya Srivastava, Steeve Jacob Sam, Harramb Mittal
Abstract
Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common pathological issues worldwide, which leads to pain,
disability and influences the execution at work and activities of daily living. ODI is one of the leading
outcome measures used often to evaluate disability in LBP patients. However, different languages can
impose challenges in the interpretation of the questionnaire. To date, no previously validated
Malayalam version of ODI is available. The study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the
reliability and validity of the Malayalam version of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI-2.1a).
