UV-Vis Spectroscopic Analysis of some Rare Earthdoped Heavy Metal Oxide Brophosphate Glasses
Randev Singh
Abstract
The borophosphate glass samples having composition〖22.5B〗_2 O_3-22.5P_2 O_5-〖35PbO-9.6ZnO-(10-x)Na〗_2 O-〖xAl〗_2 O_3-0.2〖Sm〗_2 O_3-〖0.2Gd〗_2 O_3 where x = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5have been fabricated by using melt quenching technique. XRD technique has been used to to confirm the amorphous nature of the prepared glasses. Densitieswere measured using Archimedes’ principle. It has been observed that the density gradually increase from 4.596 g/cm3 to 4.774 g/cm3 with increase in 〖Al〗_2 O_3 and corresponding decrease in 〖Na〗_2 O content. The UV-Visible absorption spectra in wavelength range of 200–800 nm of the fabricated glass sampleshas been recorded with the help of a UV-Visible spectrometer. The aim of this study is to provide some information regarding some optical parameters of present glass system. The fabricated glasses may find applications for optical storage, undersea communication, color displays, energy converters, radiation sensors etc.
