DEPRESSION AND STUDENT ANXIETY ASSOCIATED WITH LOW SELF-ESTEEM

Abstract
Introduction: Adolescence is one of the most rapid phases of human development. It is characterized by physical, social and rapid growth, as well as changes in self-esteem. Objective: To determine the association between low school self-esteem and anxiety and depression. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to recruit 500 students in three high schools. The Rosenberg self-esteem scale was used to assess global self-esteem. Results: The mean self-esteem score was 17.56 on a scale of 0 to 30. Medium and high educational stress waspositively associated with low self-esteem. Conclusions: It was concluded that self-esteem is correlated with anxiety, depression and academic stress
