Abstract

Introduction: Primary care physicians are the primary support for patients in smoking cessation. Objective: To determine how primary care physicians (PCP) are involved in smoking cessation management. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured group and individual techniques. Recruitment of 30 to 40 PCPs was planned to participate in five focus group discussions. Results: Four discussions were conducted with a total of 31 PCPs in attendance. All participating PCPs were interested in the management of tobacco-smoking patients. Conclusions: The most reported strategies were providing general support and smoking cessation counseling.
